KNIT TOGETHER -- Sunday afternoons, 4-5pm

We will be distributing hats at Pancakes for the People in October 2010 and again in January 2011 - let's get started now so we have plenty to share with our sisters and brothers in need in Durham!

Knit Together meets every Sunday afternoon to knit for others in need.  You do not need to already know how to knit!  Instruction will be available for beginners, and there will be projects for knitters of all interests and abilities.  Projects may include prayer shawls, helmet liners for soldiers in Afghanistan, blankets for young chemo patients at Duke and UNC hospitals (through Project Linus), and 8" squares for afghans for AIDS orphans in South Africa.  We are open to other possibilities - feel free to join us as you knit for your favorite charity!  If you know of a particular charity that is looking for handknit items, contact Sarah McGiverin -- we would be glad to receive that information from you!

Patterns and yarn will be provided for all knitters - loaner needles are available for anyone who does not yet own needles in the size needed for the pattern they choose.  Paid child care will be provided in the nursery on first and third Sundays.  If you would like to volunteer to provide care (or to sponsor paid care) one 2nd, 4th, or 5th Sunday afternoon, please contact Jaylynn Byassee or Sarah McGiverin.
Knit Together is happy to accept donations of any yarn, knitting needles or other knitting tools, and knitting books.  We are also looking for vinyl zippered cases - the kind that sheets, etc are packaged in for sale.  (These are very good for storing wool yarn in, to keep the moths at bay!) Donated items may be delivered to the Charles Wesley classroom downstairs in the educational building.
