Reverend Tobi Nguyen grew up in nearby Cary within the church family of Saint Francis United Methodist Church. Following her family tradition, she attended Texas A&M University for her undergraduate degree graduating in 1998 with a degree in International Studies with a focus in Latin America and a minor in Cultural Anthropology. She was very active at the Wesley Foundation and served as the Pastor to Children for a Spanish-speaking church serving the Latino community. For several years after graduation Tobi worked with migrant farm workers in Eastern North Carolina and in Florida, and served as a social worker and Community Outreach Director for families with developmental disabilities in Wake County.

“I have spent my life in the United Methodist Church in mission and discipleship, which has transformed our shared lives, communities, and world. Whether around dinner tables in homes, Communion tables in worship, or tables in the downtown community kitchen, I am thankful for how the people of the United Methodist Church have shared and will continue to share the goodness of God’s grace into my life and out to the world.”

Pastor Tobi graduated from Duke University Divinity School in May 2017 with a Master of Divinity degree and is commissioned as a Provisional Member in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. For the past five and a half years, Pastor Tobi has served as Associate Pastor at University United Methodist Church in downtown Chapel Hill. Tobi is married to Jimmy Nguyen and they have two daughters, Kae (16) and Lorelai (12). The Nguyen family is excited to join Trinity United Methodist Church in ministry and fellowship.

Her first day is January 1, 2023! Here at Trinity, we are so excited for her and her family to join the staff team, and we are looking forward to a new year filled with wonderful ministry opportunities!
