COVID-19 UPDATES:

During this time of COVID-19, our serving ministries have taken on different forms (some online, some socially distanced, some inactive). If you would like to be involved, we welcome your participation! Please contact our Office Manager for more information (office@trinitydurham.org).

Among Trinity’s neighbors are bustling downtown businesses and many of Durham’s 500 people living in homelessness. Through ministry and partnership with other organizations, Trinity seeks to offer God’s love and hospitality to ALL of our neighbors through service.  Every week, in partnership with Open Table Ministry, we offer Free Store along with a mobile shower unit provided by Fresh Start Durham to benefit our unsheltered neighbors.

Open Table Ministry

Open Table Ministry is a non-profit charity partner. OTM offers hope for people who have lost hope while seeking to provide a faithful response to an enhanced understanding of homelessness in our community. The goal is to guide homeless people toward long-term health and wholeness by building authentic relationships, meeting practical needs, and connecting with critical community resources.

Trinity’s Minister of Outreach, Rev. Carolyn Schuldt, serves as Executive Director and Chaplain, and Trinity partners with Open Table as the location for the FreeStore that provides clothing and other necessary items for people living on the streets.  Trinity also provides office space and partners to provide emergency assistance to our neighbors in crisis who come to our door.  Check out Open Table’s web page for more information www.opentableministry.org

Pancakes for the People

Trinity provides a free breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and other tasty items on the fifth Sundays to anyone who comes and would like to eat. There is often a free-store in which toiletries, warm clothes, school supplies, or other necessities are made available. (suspended during COVID pandemic)

Congregations4Children (C4C)

Trinity has enthusiastically embraced Congregations4Children (C4C), a state-wide initiative of our two NC United Methodist Conferences.  C4C is focused on addressing childhood poverty through church/school partnerships.  Since the fall of 2016, Trinity has partnered with Eastway Elementary School, a high poverty school just a few blocks from Trinity. Click here to learn more.

Urban Ministries of Durham

Located around the corner from Trinity, Urban Ministries of Durham meets the emergency needs of food, clothing, and shelter for Durham residents. The Urban Ministry center was built in 1983 from a partnership of Trinity and two other nearby churches. Trinity members serve dinner at Urban Ministries monthly and Trinity funds 10 meals a year.

Durham Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Durham grew from Durham’s faith community, commitment to service, and belief in true partnership.  In October 1985, Durham Congregations in Action (DCIA), an organization of 24 churches and faith communities, came together to officially found Habitat for Humanity of Durham. In 1989, Trinity United Methodist Church, a DCIA member, offered office space to the new organization, and their offices are still located here today, provided by the church.

Communion & Conversation

Join us for Communion and Conversation on Wednesdays at 12:00pm. A transformative weekly fellowship opportunity bridging the gap between the working professional and unhoused communities in Durham, NC, Communion and Conversation is a unique way to love your neighbor. Hosted by Trinity United Methodist Church and Open Table Ministry, Communion and Conversation entails a Communion service in the United Methodist tradition as well as a free lunch provided by the church and Open Table.

Our hope is to foster meaningful connections and thoughtful conversations through the breaking of bread and the drinking of juice. Communion and Conversation is more than an event; it's a gathering that transcends socioeconomic boundaries, creating a tapestry of fellowship that embraces and celebrates all persons.
