Ash Wednesday Service-February 14 @ 6:00 pmWhen did Ash Wednesday begin and why do we celebrate it? Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. Although Ash Wednesday has ancient roots, it does not appear in the rituals of The United Methodist Church or our predecessor denominations until the 20th century. Ash Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality. The service focuses on both themes, helping us realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Ashes are an ancient symbol . . . Lenten StudyBeginning February @ 6:30 pm Rev. Nguyen will lead a Lenten Bible Study beginning on Monday, February 19th at 6:30 pm at the parsonage. It will meet each Monday night during Lent. |

Unfortunately, will swapping out my old backpack for a brand new one, I misplaced (read: mistakenly threw away) the previous volunteer sign-up cards! This time I won’t Mr. Magoo it! Please contact Travis (travis@trinitydurham.org and 706-351-9918) ASAP to volunteer with children’s Sunday School! Also, there are additional commitment cards circulating as well, find a commitment card this Sunday before or after service. |

Seeking volunteers to sit at the office desk and direct members and guests arriving for Sunday School. Just a 30 minute offering, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. Durham CROP Walk
March 24, 2024 is almost here! And, Durham is gearing up for another fantastic year and need all hands on deck for this very special event...50 years of Durham fighting hunger by raising over $5.5 million to fight hunger locally, nationally and around the world!
The Team Captain Kick-offs are THE time to come for Walk information, new yard signs and to buy t-shirts...team captains get a free shirt! Plus, several of the local recipient agencies that receive funding from the CROP Walk will be there to talk about how money from the Walk helps them fight hunger in Durham. Also on hand will be many of the wonderful committee members who help to make CROP Walk happen each year to respond to any of your questions and suggestions.
The kick-offs are informal and you can stop in at any time during the sessions. The CROP orgaizers would love to see you!
Where: First Presbyterian Church, 305 E. Main St., Durham parking and entry in the back of the church.
Dates: Thursday, Feb. 8 from 5pm-7pm
Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10am-noon

General ConferenceCharlotte, NC The top policy-making body of The UMC.The conference meets to consider revisions to church law and to adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy, and economic issues. General Conference also approves plans and budgets for churchwide agencies and programs. United Methodists from all over the world are traveling to attend General Conference in Charlotte, NC from April 23-May 3, 2024. Psalm 46:10 sets the theme for this important gathering: “…and know that I am God.” In all we do, God guides our every decision. The gathering is expected to attract about 5,500-7,500 people. You are invited to serve as part of our Welcome Team during General Conference and offer gracious hospitality to our guests. We have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ and create a holy space where spirits can be nurtured. This will foster a welcoming environment and support delegates as they come together in worship, discernment, and holy conferencing on behalf of The United Methodist Church. Serving at General Conference, you will have the opportunity to participate in the connectional nature of the church, to meet new people, and to live into your commitment to support The UMC with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
