LaNella Out of the Office for General Conference

Native American United Women in Faith made these lovely beaded pins for everyone at General Conference to remind us that they are praying for us.

I have the honor of being a member of the NC Conference delegation to General Conference.  The conference is April 23rd thru May 3rd in Charlotte, NC.  Additionally, I have some support responsibilities for the Judicial Council of the United Methodist Church which always meets immediately before General Conference.  I will leave for Charlotte on April 18th.

I will continue to check emails and voicemails while away.  Additionally, I will send out the newsletter The Steeple and the Preparation for Worship.

I solicit your prayers for the conference.  I also ask that you pray for smooth sailing in my absence.

Blessings and peace,

LaNella Smith

Freedom School Family Dinner Volunteers Needed!

Freedom School Family Dinner Volunteers Needed!

This summer, the families whose kids Durham Cares is serving this year through the Freedom Summer Camp Program need our help! To boost student motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem, and connect the needs of families and children to the resources of their communities, The Mt. Level Community Partnership for Racial Justice (MLCPRJ) sponsors a Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom School program in Durham and this year we have been asked to help! In an effort to assist Durham kids and their families, we will host 5 Tuesday night dinners at Epworth UMC for the families whose children are campers at Freedom School. The first dinner will be June 25, 2024 with volunteers needed from 4 to 6 (PM). Signing up is super easy; just click the link to our Sign-up Genius ad below and find a dinner and a role that works for you! For more information, please contact Travis. C4C Mission project

C4C Mission project

We are off and running with our collection of book bags and school supplies for rising kindergarten children who will enroll in Eastway over the next weeks and months.

We will collect items through Sunday, May 19. We will pack them immediately after the worship service that day, and we will deliver them to Eastway at 10:00 AM, on Monday, May 20.

We are collecting new book bags, small enough for kindergarteners and without rollers, as well as the school supplies to fill them

(3) Student folders with pockets & prongs for notebook paper

(1) Notebook paper (approx. 100 sheets, wide ruled)

(6) #2 Ticonderoga pencils

(1) Crayola large crayons (approx. 8 crayons per box)

(1) Elmer’s school glue stick

(1) pencil/crayon pouch or box

(1) small bottle of hand sanitizer

No one needs to fill a book bag completely! Bring what you feel led to bring, and as always, it will work out to the glory of God! If you prefer for C4C members to shop for you, please mail a check to Trinity, and be sure to put C4C on the memo line.
