Join the July 17th Book Study as we explore Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart”).
Join our book study on July 17, 2024, at 6 PM at the parsonage as we discuss Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart.” Told through the fictional experiences of Okonkwo, a wealthy and fearless Igbo warrior of Umuofia in the late 1800s, Things Fall Apart explores one man's futile resistance to the devaluing of his Igbo traditions by British political and religious forces and his despair as his community capitulates to the powerful new order. With over 20 million copies sold and translated into fifty-seven languages, Things Fall Apart provides one of the most illuminating and permanent monuments to the African experience with Christianity. Achebe does not only capture life in a pre-colonial African village, but he also conveys the tragedy of the loss of that world while broadening our understanding of our contemporary realities. Join us on July 17, 2024, @ 6 PM at the parsonage to explore this essential read. |
Journey to Thriving
Trinity UMC is thrilled to have received an invitation to join the first Journey to Thriving cohort that will participate in the Durham Pilgrimage of Pain and Hope, engage in a Learning Cohort, and develop a concrete Adaptive Plan. You can read more about it here: https://durhamcares.org/journey-to-thriving/ Trinity UMC will select 2 people to lead the congregation. Those interested in this opportunity should display formal work in understanding systemic racism.
