Eastway Elementary School Thanks You, Trinity, for Your Love and Generous Spirit

Eastway Elementary School Thanks You, Trinity, for Your Love and Generous Spirit God’s wonders never cease. Thank you, Trinity Family, for your generosity in outfitting rising Eastway Elementary School kindergartners looking forward to their first year of school. Remembering the thrill of new school supplies—your own, your children’s, your grandchildren’s-- you have provided for children unknown to you, but beloved by our Lord. Twenty-one children will be so excited to receive brand new book bags filled with the necessary items you have lovingly provided. Extra supplies that Trinity provided will fill other book bags for many more children, as well. The staff and faculty had visions of the special treats “dancing in their heads” all afternoon. In the words of Genee Murray Maddox, Child and Family Support Leader at Eastway, “Your generosity embodies the spirit of compassion and unity that makes our community so strong.” The smiles on the faces of the delivery team and Eastway faculty have never shone brighter. Joy is contagious!

Eastway Elementary School is transitioning to a year-round calendar for the upcoming school year. Families, faculty and staff will spend the weeks after school is out this year preparing for the coming changes. Please check the Trinity Prayer List in The Steeple in upcoming weeks as we hold the Eastway family’s hands in both our hearts and our prayers through this shorter summer break.

In the love of our Lord,
Mary Beth Markham and Gwen Palmer

Durham Celebrates World Hunger Day

Durham Celebrates World Hunger Day

In recognition of World Hunger Day, Durham residents are invited to celebrate this important day with a large outdoor event on Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will be held at Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street.

World Hunger Day Durham, NC, aims to raise awareness of food insecurity experienced in the community, as well as to highlight the amazing work being done to support our residents and create a more fair and equitable food system. Attendees will celebrate all that food means with friendship, music, arts, and entertainment for the entire family, including food trucks, giveaways, free snacks, bounce house and more.

“We intend to create a joyful and welcoming atmosphere where families and individuals can experience new foods, learn about healthy eating that incorporates culture and is budget friendly, find out about helpful resources, and just relax and enjoy the day,” said Durham County Food Security Coordinator Mary Oxendine

Durham Congregations in Action (DCIA) is a co-sponsor of the event.  Trinity is a member congregation of DCIA and Pastor Tobi is a board member of DCIA.

**UPDATED** Volunteers Needed to Feed Children and Families!

Our work to serve and support the families and children from the Freedom School summer camp is approaching, and we still need volunteers. Starting on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, and continuing for the following four Tuesdays, we will feed the families and kids of the camp with much-needed dinner! We will host 5 Tuesday night (6/25, 7/2, 7/9, 7/16, 7/23) dinners at Epworth UMC. We will need volunteers for each dinner from 4 to 6 (PM). We already have a meal plan and strategy, but we still need a few more volunteers for each dinner!
