Book discussion - June 20th

Join Pastor Tobi on June 20th at 6:00 pm at the parsonage to discuss The Heave and Earth Grocery Store. Please RSVP to the church office (919-683-1386 or office@trinitydurham.org) if you plan to attend.  Read the NPR book review below.

The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store opens in 1972, when workers clearing a lot for a new townhouse development in Pottstown discover a skeleton at the bottom of a well, along with a mezuzah, a small case that often hangs on the doorframes of Jewish homes. The police question the one elderly Jewish man still living at the site of the old synagogue on Chicken Hill, but before the investigation intensifies, an Act of God intervenes: Hurricane Agnes hits the Northeast, washing away the crime scene.

LAST CALL: A Few More Volunteers Are Still Needed for Freedom School!

LAST CALL: A Few More Volunteers Are Still Needed for Freedom School!

Our work to serve and support the families and children from the Freedom School summer camp is steadily approaching, and we still need a few more volunteers. As you know, starting on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, and continuing through Tuesday, July 23, 2024, we will feed the families and kids of the camp with much-needed dinner! Although several folks have already committed to volunteering, we still need just a few more volunteers to help. Please take a minute to consider volunteering for one of the following dates:

    • June 25: We need FOUR more volunteers.

    • July 16: We need FOUR more volunteers.

    • July 23: We need FOUR more volunteers.

Volunteers serve from 4 PM to 6 PM, beginning with preparing the food, serving the food, and cleaning up the serving area following dinner! Volunteers aren’t expected to plan or gather any items; we’ve got that covered! We already have a meal plan and strategy, so committing to serving on any one of these dates is easy! Click the link below and sign up now! For more information, please contact Travis (travis@trinitydurham.org or 706-351-9918).

BREAKING NEWS: C4C Expands its Partnership and Commitment to Serve the Kids and Families at Eastway Elementary!

BREAKING NEWS: C4C Expands its Partnership and Commitment to Serve the Kids and Families at Eastway Elementary!

C4C's commitment to the children and families of Eastway Elementary is expanding. While continuing their much-needed bookbag, school supply, and annual coat drives, C4C is adding new initiatives to help Eastway tackle a huge issue: student absenteeism. Unfortunately, many kindergarteners and first-graders miss as many as 40 days each school year. Attendance problems of this magnitude negatively affect the learning and serving environment. In response, our C4C team is collaborating with the administration at Eastway to shrink those numbers. Starting in July, when Eastway begins its new, year-round school schedule, C4C will help Eastway by creating opportunities for the most vulnerable kids by funding and facilitating opportunities for the students and their parents to learn about the importance of attendance and address some of the barriers and challenges that are disrupting the families’ ability to help their children flourish. We will start with lunch and snack programs to bring the children and their parents closer to a place where the school and the community can help! Stay tuned as we watch this wonderful ministry continue to grow. For more information or to figure out a way that you can get involved with helping Eastway Elementary, please contact Travis (travis@trinitydurham.org or 706-351-9918).
