This SundaySunday, July 16, 2023 Join us this weekend for the continuation of our sermon series, Hymns of the Heart. This week's focus will be, “Be Thou My Vision” versed by Eleanor Hull, 1912. What does it mean to set our minds on the things of the Spirit? How can we seek God’s vision and wisdom? As you contemplate these questions listen to and sing alongside a version of the hymn here: https://youtu.be/Optrm7lF16s . We will be streaming online at trinitydurham.org or YouTube. The Scripture readings will be from Romans 8:1-11, and Matthew 13: 1-9, 18-23. We hope you will join us! For more infomation visit:

Gifts of PrayerCongregations for Children May my prayer be set before You like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. --Psalm 141:2, a psalm of David Summertime… Golden rays bathe our earth in more hours of sunshine, yielding a bounty of beloved fruits, vegetables, and flowers while also calling us to tweak our schedules with more time to relax, rewind and savor the season. The sense of smell brings to mind familiar delights: breezes tickle noses with the scents of sea water and swimming pools; kitchens fill with the aromas of watermelons, tomatoes, sliced lemons and peaches; and the cooler air of the evening teases appetites with wafts of favorite entrees roasting on the grill… Could it be that David wrote Psalm 141 in the summertime??? While classes won’t start again until August at our Congregations for Children partner school, Eastway Elementary, we hope your encounters with the marvelous scents of summer will remind you to pray for Eastway--the faculty, the staff, the students, the families, and Trinity’s ministries. The Apostle John referred to “the prayers of God’s people” as “golden bowls full of incense.” (Revelations 5:8) Wow!!! So, please, pray, remembering to include your favorite prayer “perfumes”: praises for God’s tender-loving mercies and provision, thanksgiving for educational opportunities and successful mission drives, and hope for safekeeping and brighter futures. Through trusting prayer in the Name of our Savior, our hearts can sing to God, the source of “every good and perfect gift.” (James 1:17) In Christ, Mary Beth Markham and Gwen Palmer Congregations for Children Co-Chairs |
