Meet our Guest PreacherJoining us for worship on August 6 Carl King is an Elder in the North Carolina Conference of the UMC, currently on Personal Leave after serving the past five years on the alumni and development staff of Duke Divinity School. Prior to his Duke appointment, Carl served for a decade as Senior Pastor of University UMC in Chapel Hill - emerging with his Duke allegiances intact. While at UUMC, one of his wisest decisions was hiring Rev. Tobi Nguyen to the pastoral team. Carl grew up here at Trinity UMC where he credits the pastors and the members (ministers, all) for helping to raise him with an abiding trust in the grace and love that God in Christ has for all people. |

Congregations for ChildrenBack to School Blessing Dear LORD, We pause to ask for Your Hand of Protection as we open the doors of this new school year. Every year is a different year, Lord, but You already know that. You are accustomed to different school years throughout time and across these lands that You created. You are perfectly capable of handling all things, so as Your Children we lift our prayers. May we be led by faith and love. May we also find thankfulness in knowing that Your Spirit will go before us and with us into this school year. We humbly ask for discernment for our leaders as they continue to prepare for this upcoming year, and may they feel our complete support and trust for all the preparations that they are making. We humbly ask for guidance for our faculty and teachers who are working so tirelessly to be ready for any circumstances that may arise, while also creating the best strategies to increase our children’s skills and knowledge. We humbly ask for strength for the members of the vast and varied support staff who are necessary to carry out the many needs within our school systems: in administration, in building maintenance, in food preparation, with health needs, with transportation, in resource gathering, with counseling and assistance, with school security, and so much more…. We humbly ask for assurance and peace for families as they send their children into this school year. We also humbly ask for You to place a shield around each and every child for this school year—the shield that only You can place. May students be excited for educational opportunities, resilient in the face of challenge, and secure in the safety of their school environments so that their minds, bodies and spirits may be fortified with knowledge from their academic learning. And may they find much laughter, love and joy during this school year. We, at Trinity, are truly blessed Lord, as we raise our unified voices to You. May each of us count it a privilege to place the lives and the well-being of students and staff and families in Your Hands that are so capable and so loving, now and forever. Father, we will pray. We will trust. We will wait for You to show us how to be Your Light, Your Hands and Your Feet in this school year. Amen. [Thank you to St. Matthew’s UMC, Jackson, MS, for the original blessing which has been slightly modified.] |

Reminder about the Security System
Just a reminder that earlier this year, our security system got an upgrade! There are some things that changed, and some things that didn't change. Our access fobs were all replaced with new ones. Contact the office with any questions about the fobs! (office@trinitydurham.org) We were just given an upgrade on our camera system! Yay. You will notice the gate and door buzzer also have a fancy new camera which makes things easier and more efficient to operate. Something that has NOT changed is the time our security system automatically arms and disarms. Every night at 10 PM the security system arms itself, and every morning at 7 AM it automatically disarms itself. Not all of the fobs issued have the ability to disarm the system. Only those who would need access to the building outside of the hours of 7am - 10pm. If you believe that you will need access to the church builidng outside of those times, please contact Nicole in the church office to make arrangements at least 1 week prior. If you DO have access to turning off the security system, the process is slightly different from how it was before. Please schedule a time with Nicole if you have not been shown the new procedure for turning OFF the alarm. And as always, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. |
