Aldersgate Class

Sunday School Class Resumes Sept. 10th

On Sunday, September 10th at 9:45am, the Aldersgate Class resumes meeting. We will return to our classroom on the second floor near the elevator. Russ Richey will lead several of our early sessions focusing on our hymnal -- the holy book that Methodists following the guidance of John and Charles Wesley -- have carried along with the Bible in purse or pocket or lodged handily in the pew.

If you have the 1737 Collection of Psalms and Hymns or another 18th Century version, by all means bring it. Since current hymnbooks don't fit readily in pocket or purse, ample copies will be available in our room. You might bring the title of your favorite hymn or portion of the hymnal. Again, Trinity keeps itself oriented by offering those attending two books in our pews, hymnals and Bibles.

All are welcome.

What does Jesus want to know about us?

What does Jesus want to know about us?

Sunday School Class starts September 10th

Jesus was fond of asking questions, many of which cut right to the heart of what it means to be human. Why are you terrified? What do you live for? Who do you say that I am? In Questions Jesus Asked, author Magrey deVega explores six of the most provocative questions Jesus posed to others and guides us in answering them for ourselves.

Asking these questions takes courage. Not only do they reveal what Jesus really cares about, they open a window into our hearts. We all have questions for God, but growth happens when we turn things around and ask what Jesus wants to know about us. When we dare to raise them, these questions bring us a fuller appreciation for the wisdom, power, and presence of God in our lives. Are you willing to step out in faith? Are you ready to answer the questions Jesus asked?

Join us for this 6-week Sunday School class beginning September 10th at 9:45am. You can read along in the book or just come for the weekly video and discussion.

Ministry Opportunity

Ministry Opportunity

Letter from Rev. Carolyn Schuldt

Trinity UMC has many opportunities to help bring Hope into the darkest places in the heart of Durham.  Here is one:

The Durham Early Childhood Homelessness Task Force has been meeting to develop an action plan to address the needs of families experiencing homelessness with children under the age of 5. To quantify this issue for those of us who are not aware, as of Monday (8/20/23), Durham had 48 unsheltered families, 33 of which have children under the age of 5. Additionally, there are 42 families at risk of homelessness in the next two weeks.

They are asking that anyone across sectors that potentially interact with this demographic group (in particular, anyone not dedicated to “homeless services”) to attend the task force’s next meeting on Monday 9/11/23 from 10-11:30 AM. It will take place at Duke Memorial Church, 504 W Chapel Hill St. Please let me know if you’re interested in attending or know someone who might be! All are welcome.

Homelessness has many faces…Some of them are very small.

Grateful to serve with you,

Rev. Carolyn

Minister of Outreach

Scott Livesey

Hello church family! I'm 71 years young and living in Creedmore. I'm retired from the Navy, and also worked for GKN in Sanford, and now retired again. For fun, I like to read, cook, and dabble in photography. I've been so excited about supporting the different ministries here at Trinity, and have already been active volunteering for Open Table Ministy on Tuesdays and Communion and Conversation on Wednesdays. I'm very happy to be part of the Trinity United Methodist community!

Letter from the Bishop

Letter from the Bishop

Hebrews reminds us to remember those in prison as ifwe were in prison ourselves and prisoners are specifically named in the parable of the Great Judgment in Matthew 25: "I was in prison and you visited me." "When you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me." America's prison population continues to be the largest in the world. Our prisons are a great mission field!

First established in 1999 as Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries, Cross and Key Prison Ministries has been faithfully ministering to prison inmates for 24 years. Hundreds of volunteers and thousands of inmates have participated in Disciple Bible study behind prison walls and Cross and Key Prison Ministry has now expanded its reach to resource all prison ministries in our conference. Cross and Key Prison Ministries is our North Carolina Conference resource for prison ministry.

I believe in prison ministry. Throughout my ministry, I have seen the change it has brought to individuals, volunteers, and local churches. Please do all you can to support this effort.

Additional information and resources will be provided on NCCUMC.org and please feel free to contact Executive Director Mark Hicks at:

Invitation from Aldersgate United Methodist Church

When a marriage ends it hurts. Separation and/or divorce are devastating to all involved. It is one of our missions at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Durham to reach out to all in our community affected by this drastic life change.
The Divorce Care program at Aldersgate offers another resource for you to present to the members of your church and community facing separation and/or divorce. It is a Bible based 13-week education program and support group designed to help anyone going through this devastating life change. We are offering the program at no expense to the participant. There is no charge to register, and we provide the required workbook for the program.
Please pass the word to those in need of God’s love and hope during one of life’s most devastating events, separation and/or divorce.

Our next program begins September 7, 2023, and runs through December 7, 2023. Our brochure is attached to this email and one of our team members will be contacting you to arrange a time to drop off pre-printed brochures which can be given to people interested in attending the program.
