Sunday School Class Resumes Sept. 10th

On Sunday, September 10th at 9:45am, the Aldersgate Class resumes meeting. We will return to our classroom on the second floor near the elevator. Russ Richey will lead several of our early sessions focusing on our hymnal -- the holy book that Methodists following the guidance of John and Charles Wesley -- have carried along with the Bible in purse or pocket or lodged handily in the pew.

If you have the 1737 Collection of Psalms and Hymns or another 18th Century version, by all means bring it. Since current hymnbooks don't fit readily in pocket or purse, ample copies will be available in our room. You might bring the title of your favorite hymn or portion of the hymnal. Again, Trinity keeps itself oriented by offering those attending two books in our pews, hymnals and Bibles.

All are welcome.

What does Jesus want to know about us?

What does Jesus want to know about us?

Sunday School Class starts September 10th

Jesus was fond of asking questions, many of which cut right to the heart of what it means to be human. Why are you terrified? What do you live for? Who do you say that I am? In Questions Jesus Asked, author Magrey deVega explores six of the most provocative questions Jesus posed to others and guides us in answering them for ourselves.

Asking these questions takes courage. Not only do they reveal what Jesus really cares about, they open a window into our hearts. We all have questions for God, but growth happens when we turn things around and ask what Jesus wants to know about us. When we dare to raise them, these questions bring us a fuller appreciation for the wisdom, power, and presence of God in our lives. Are you willing to step out in faith? Are you ready to answer the questions Jesus asked?

Join us for this 6-week Sunday School class beginning September 10th at 9:45am. You can read along in the book or just come for the weekly video and discussion.

Letter from Rev. Carolyn Schuldt

Trinity UMC has many opportunities to help bring Hope into the darkest places in the heart of Durham.  Here is one:

The Durham Early Childhood Homelessness Task Force has been meeting to develop an action plan to address the needs of families experiencing homelessness with children under the age of 5. To quantify this issue for those of us who are not aware, as of Monday (8/20/23), Durham had 48 unsheltered families, 33 of which have children under the age of 5. Additionally, there are 42 families at risk of homelessness in the next two weeks.

They are asking that anyone across sectors that potentially interact with this demographic group (in particular, anyone not dedicated to “homeless services”) to attend the task force’s next meeting on Monday 9/11/23 from 10-11:30 AM. It will take place at Duke Memorial Church, 504 W Chapel Hill St. Please let me know if you’re interested in attending or know someone who might be! All are welcome. Homelessness has many faces…Some of them are very small.

Grateful to serve with you,

Rev. Carolyn
