Introducing our Newest Staff MemberTravis Williams - Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries Travis is an experienced organizer, leader, and teacher committed to developing healthy families and servant leaders. Travis has worked with children, families, and communities for over 20 years. He completed his undergraduate work at the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida; legal studies and social work training at The University of Georgia; and is currently continuing his education at Duke University, studying theology. Travis worked for the poor and the indigent, representing adults and children accused of serious felony offenses in Georgia's trial and appellate courts while teaching lawyers and advocates nationwide. He left legal advocacy direct service work to focus on community wellness through mission work and service to Christ. NPR, HBO, MSNBC, and countless other national, regional, and local news outlets have featured Travis’ work and efforts. Most recently, Travis returned from South Sudan, where he was teaching biblical interpretation and community development at a rural Bible college in a small town less than 200 miles from the nation’s capital. Travis has also worked with several United Methodist congregations and preached and taught in dozens of churches throughout the American South. He would love to get to know each and every one of you. Godly Play ClassPreschool - 5th Grade This week we are starting our adventures in Godly Play once again. What is Godly Play, you might ask. It is a different way of living and learning through the Bible. We use objects to represent the people and places in the stories in order to become a part of the story as we hear it. The children join the storyteller in the time and space of the story then discuss what they heard and saw in the process. This video is an example of the wondering questions that we might ask each other after we live through our stories. Our class will meet in the classroom near the elevator on the 2nd floor starting at 9:45 this Sunday (Room 210). I look forward to seeing you there! Pancakes for the People's Successful Return
July’s event was a wonderful opportunity for teamwork and re-connection with friends. The next 5th Sunday is October 28th. We would love to do it again to reestablish the long held Trinity tradition. In order to make it happen, we need 2 lay people to take the lead. No need to reinvent the wheel, we already have the system set up and ready to go, we just need someone to take the lead on coordinating. If you are willing to serve in this capacity or have questions, please call Rev. Carolyn at (919) 530-9477 (new number) or email Carolyn@trinitydurham.org |
