Guest from Note in the Pocket

On Sunday, October 8th, we will have guest, Dallas Bonavita from “Note in the Pocket” share ways that we can get involved with this ministry. Here is a little bit about her.

Dallas Bonavita, Executive Director

Dallas was instrumental in developing the nonprofit, Note in the Pocket, was a founding member of its Board of Directors and serves as the first Executive Director. Her passion for youth and community volunteerism began in college where she worked with troubled youth.

She holds a BS in Parks and Recreation Management from Western Carolina University and has earned an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School. Mrs. Bonavita is a North Carolina native and has lived in Raleigh for over 25 years with her husband Frank, their two grown children, and two dogs, Sloan and Chet.

“Every day I get to work with amazing people dedicated to bringing dignity and love to children and families in our community who are suffering from clothing insecurity. I am thankful for the privilege to serve with such a wonderful staff, a supportive board, and the best volunteers, financial supporters, school social workers, and agency caseworkers in the world.”

How to get involved:

We will open for Durham volunteers later this year, but in the meantime we need your help collecting clothing donations and spreading the word! If you are interested in hosting a clothing drive please contact info@noteinthepocket.org. We currently have two Durham donation collection sites and you can view that information on our website- https://noteinthepocket.org/donate-clothing/. Follow us on Social Media, on Facebook and Instagram (@noteinthepocket). Questions about how to get involved please contact Sarah Caldwell, sarahc@noteinthepocket.org.

The Blessing of the Animals service is inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, a thirteenth-century Italian Catholic friar who lived a life of voluntary poverty and is known for his love of animals. Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity

Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity

On Sunday, October 15, we will begin a churchwide study and worship emphasis called Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. Over a period of 4 weeks, we will look at some of the financial challenges facing us as a nation and examine our own spending, saving, and giving habits. In addition to exploring biblical principles of financial management, we will learn ways to assess our financial situation and develop a financial plan that will allow us to experience the true joy that comes through simplicity and generosity.

At the end of the emphasis, we will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of giving for the coming year. We will consecrate these commitments on Sunday, November 12, and Sunday, November 19.

31st Annual Vigil Against Violence

31st Annual Vigil Against Violence

Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 am

Join us to honor and remember 50 lives.

All taken from us by violence in Durham County during 2022. Over 90% ended by gunshot wounds. Each a tragic reminder of more than 1000 lives in 31 years, similarly snatched away and still powerfully missed. Every one an enduring, immeasurable loss to our community.

Join us Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 am on the grounds of Elizabeth Street UMC (1209 N. Elizabeth Street) for a ritual of sacred attention to these named, loved ones. For the 31st time, we offer this Annual Vigil Against Violence as a space to unite in public mourning for the inequitable human toll of our violence.

We gather as people bearing the gifts of a body and a name. We gather as neighbors mindful of the violence in our systems and our souls. We gather as fragile, forgetful creatures—in the light of a Love that will not let any one life go.

We gather in love and lament for...

Pancakes for the People's Successful Return

Pancakes for the People's Successful Return

July’s event was a wonderful opportunity for teamwork and re-connection with friends. The next 5th Sunday is October 28th.   We would love to do it again to reestablish the long held Trinity tradition. In order to make it happen, we need 2 lay people to take the lead. No need to reinvent the wheel, we already have the system set up and ready to go, we just need someone to take the lead on coordinating.

If you are willing to serve in this capacity or have questions, please call Rev. Carolyn at (919) 530-9477 (new number) or email Carolyn@trinitydurham.org
