Road Closures

Plan ahead! This Sunday, there will be a race happening in Durham that may affect your drive in to Sunday School or worship service. We just wanted to give you a heads up so you can plan accordingly. See the details below regarding the times and locations of roads as they reopen.

_____________________________

Roads utilized for the race course will be closed and re-opened on a rolling basis as runners pass through the course. Most road closures will occur between 7-10:45 AM.

Downtown Durham will re-open to normal traffic procedures starting at 8:30 AM. All roads north of Main Street and Duke’s East Campus will re-open starting at 9 AM. All roads south of Main Street will have rolling closures from 9 AM to 10:45 AM.

Police and course monitors will be positioned at each intersection on the course. Detours and alternate routes will be supported by DPD & course marshals. At certain intersections, cars may be assisted across the course when deemed safe by the officer in charge. Please be patient as it may take a few minutes to find a large enough break in the participants to help you across.

31st Annual Vigil Against Violence

31st Annual Vigil Against Violence

Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 am

Join us to honor and remember 50 lives.

All taken from us by violence in Durham County during 2022. Over 90% ended by gunshot wounds. Each a tragic reminder of more than 1000 lives in 31 years, similarly snatched away and still powerfully missed. Every one an enduring, immeasurable loss to our community.

Join us Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 am on the grounds of Elizabeth Street UMC (1209 N. Elizabeth Street) for a ritual of sacred attention to these named, loved ones. For the 31st time, we offer this Annual Vigil Against Violence as a space to unite in public mourning for the inequitable human toll of our violence.

We gather as people bearing the gifts of a body and a name. We gather as neighbors mindful of the violence in our systems and our souls. We gather as fragile, forgetful creatures—in the light of a Love that will not let any one life go.

We gather in love and lament for...

Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity

Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity

This Sunday, October 15, we will begin a churchwide study and worship emphasis called Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. Over a period of 4 weeks, we will look at some of the financial challenges facing us as a nation and examine our own spending, saving, and giving habits. In addition to exploring biblical principles of financial management, we will learn ways to assess our financial situation and develop a financial plan that will allow us to experience the true joy that comes through simplicity and generosity.

At the end of the emphasis, we will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of giving for the coming year. We will consecrate these commitments on Sunday, November 12, and Sunday, November 19.
