Nonviolence Book Study in January!January 22, 2024 @ 7:00 pm As we ease into the new year and look ahead to January 2024, we can’t help but look ahead to Dr. King’s birthday! Dr. King introduced mainstream America to Satyāgraha! Satyāgraha is the Hindu word for "holding firmly to truth" or "truth force." It is the particular form of nonviolent or civil resistance practiced by Gandhi in South Africa and India and adopted by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. here in the States. To commemorate Dr. King’s contribution and begin the serious work of thinking about nonviolence as a Christian solution to community problems, we will tackle an incredible book called Nonviolence: The History of a Dangerous Idea by Mark Kurlansky. Our Nonviolence book study will be a one-night event of robust discussion. The goal is for everyone to read the book in advance of the book study and come prepared to work for one night, but even if the holidays get away from you, still plan on coming to the one-night book study on January 22, 2023, at 7 PM! The link for the book is below (click on the picture to find the book on Amazon), and ALL are welcome and invited. Contact Travis (travis@trinitydurham.org or 706-351-9918) for more info! |

Volunteering with Eastway Elementary for C4C
Our family neighbors at our partner school, Eastway Elementary School, need our help! And C4C (Congregations For Children) needs volunteers to help some families struggling with school attendance with kindergarteners. On January 18 (tentative date), Eastway will partner with C4C for an afterschool dinner meeting with several families with kids in kindergarten to help boost attendance. We will need volunteers to work with kids, parents, and small groups to help! The January 18th event will only require a 1.5-2-hour commitment and additional training before the event. The training event will be scheduled once I get the best time for our volunteers. PLEASE email me (travis) and commit to volunteering to help our neighborhood kids! I can be contacted via email (travis@trinitydurham.org) or via cell at 706-351-9918. I hope to hear from you soon! Congregations For Children (C4C) is a statewide initiative of The United Methodist Church focused on reflecting the love of Christ to our neighbors by helping children in public schools who are living in poverty.
