Summer Sermon Series

This summer, Trinity UMC is spending June through September in one of the most extraordinary pieces of writing in all of Christian history — Paul’s Letter to the Romans.

Romans is the letter theologians have argued about for two thousand years, and for good reason. It gave Augustine his conversion. It broke open the Reformation. It brought John Wesley to Aldersgate. And it has something to say to us, here, now, in this moment.

Over the course of the summer, we’ll walk through Paul’s sweeping argument about grace, justice, belonging, and hope — from “the righteousness of God revealed through faith” in chapter 1 all the way to the breathtaking declaration of chapter 8 that nothing — nothing — in all creation can separate us from the love of God. Along the way we’ll sit with hard questions: What does it mean to be set free? Who belongs to the people of God? How do we live together across difference? What does faithful community actually look like?

These aren’t abstract theological puzzles. They are the questions of our lives and our life together.

Come ready to be surprised. Romans has a way of meeting people exactly where they are — and refusing to leave them there.

We hope you’ll join us every Sunday this summer at Trinity. Invite a friend. Bring your questions. There’s room at this table.
